Sunday Spotlight - Easter 2013

I am too tired to do our Easter Sunday any justice...
so that will have to wait till later this week!
It was a happy day....
with a great morning at church,
yummy food,
Easter egg hunting,
scavenger hunts,
and great time with family.
Lots more pics to follow!

Sunday Spotlight - Spring snowstorm

Another crazy snowstorm - with some thundersnow again!
Beautiful - but completely snow bound today.
Canceling church and other fun plans..
but I for one was not complaining..
because the power stayed ON!
(it flickered once - but we weren't even phased...
cause we have buckets of water...wood...kerosene..
we are prepared now!)
The snow was heavy and wet..
but it didn't bother these three.
(you can see Ava making snow angels)
 Hudson loves the snow...
and the unsuspecting birds.
We played some DS and some Ipad.
 Went outside 3 times.
 made fruit salad...
and played Candy Land 4 times....
worked on taxes (fun)...
cleaned...cooked (well - OK-  Shannon cooked)...did laundry.
and the snow just kept coming.
I decided it was time to give some piano lessons...
and had some very amazing results.
They practiced and practiced and practiced.
 And this guy..
did nothing.
He has a pain in his leg.
He is catching a cold.
And his belly hurts.
(pediatric gastroenterologist appointment last week...
endoscopy is our next step in a couple weeks)

So he laid in his closet and played electronics most of the day.
(Ayden says...we put them in closets. LOL.)
Ayden, Ava and Daddy just got back in from
extreme sledding...
which I think I was glad I didn't actually witness!

It was such a good day.

Yesterday was also a REALLY fun day...
District Music Contest 2013.
Savana and Lee did amazing jobs...
Savana's small ensemble is headed to STATE contest
and Lee is taking his solo!
They are so talented and so fun to watch.
I have videos - but they are long and I can't get them to load.
And - I probably need their permission anyway...

but they are wonderful!

Here's a little tidbit of my budding pianists.
They are really getting the hang of it!

Ava G

Ava G
(which seems to be her nickname now and then)
 - has been my daughter...
since the moment I saw her darling face.
But today marks our 5th official gotcha forever day.
And our beautiful Ava Grace Jinah is not a baby anymore.
 She is strong.
And loving.
And nurturing.
And a beautiful gift from God.

Her recent grade card from Kindergarten...
reassured me that even though I feel like I fail miserably most days
in the "mother" department...
that this little princess
is well adjusted and happy.

SOCIAL/EMOTIONAL SKILLS
Accepts redirection from adults - Excellent
Exhibits self-control - Excellent
Uses courteous and respectful language with others - Excellent
Interacts appropriately with other students - Excellent

A momma love, love, loves to see Excellent on any category -
but especially when it is linked to "social/emotional".

I cannot even explain how it feels to get a hug
from this beautiful little person.
She makes us smile every single day..
with her quirky little sense of humor...
and her fabulous infectious laughter.
I have reminisced all day about how shy and scared she was on this day 5 years ago.
But how quickly she relaxed and accepted my love...
our love.
(although she did not allow us to sleep for over a year!)

We love you Ava Grace Jinah!
Forever and ever.

Ava loses a tooth!

In her most excited voice...
"I can't wait to tell my friends and my teacher the process that happened...
Yesterday I hit my tooth on Ella's shoulder...
then tonite I bit it and then I pulled it out!"

Another birthday and a long awaited train ride!

 6 years old!
I don't even know how it happened...
that my baby girl...is no longer a baby.
But indeed a sweet, kind, funny, little girl.
 She chose Chili's for dinner..
mainly for the dessert
 (and the singing!)
She came decked out in her best birthday finery.
With a gang of people she loves...
  who make her giggle.
We had a happy birthday meal...with lots of laughs...
and then we headed to our true destination!
THE TRAIN!
We waited impatiently in the train station..
went to the bathroom a few times...
watched trains go by...
and were starting to create a bit of chaos..
when at last - it arrived!
 Our train!!!
Even a little rain couldn't dampen this excitement!
 Fearlessly boarding our train...
 and excitedly awaiting the whistle!
Alec had been struggling with a belly ache all day...
so didn't get to enjoy the trip as much as he would have liked...
but he survived.
And he will do it again...cause he's pretty sure he wants
to be a conductor when he grows up!
(or a spaceman
so he could bring me and Ava some rocks
from the moon!)
Ava brought her stash of makeup...
just in case the girls needed to freshen up.
 And Korbyn happily obliged.
Hilarious...
 and a little more hilarious!
We all had a great trip..
the perfect length of time 1 hour 5 minutes!

I think it was a birthday this girl will not forget.
She was thrilled with her day today too..
passing out all her treats..
and being treated like a princess.
Cause you know...
she is our
beautiful princess.

I love you little pumpkin head.
You make my heart smile.

Birthday week and the "power cut"

Tuesday morning we woke to a winter wonderland...
with power lines down...
(in fact you can see one in this picture)
and a full fledged "power cut."
(which by the way comes from Peppa Pig - a British cartoon the kids love.
And an episode in which they lived through a power cut and had to survive with no TV!)
These two thought another snow day might be fine...
but after a couple days of no power...
they felt a little differently.
Kerosene heater - check
Fireplace roaring - check
candles everywhere - check
coffee maker moved inside to the livingroom - check
sleepover arrangement for 5 where it's warm - check
water turned on using the generator - check
(thanks to my very very resourceful husband!)
We had a very special day Thursday..
in the midst of the power cut...
our baby turned 5 years old!
He was just a little excited to go to Chili's for dinner!
And this little man enjoyed EVERY moment of it!
These two also had a great time...
Ava loved the chips and salsa and cake and ice cream!
Ayden LOVES shrimp - he ate an adult portion!
 16,000 people Tuesday without power
in our co-op's district.
I would imagine they have almost everyone powered up tonite...
but what a huge, cold, overwhelming job this had to be
for those line men who worked day and night these
past few days.
This little man didn't mind that his birthday
landed on a power cut.
He had a good, good day
(that's what he told me when I picked him up from school anyway).
He had tons of presents to open...
including a new bike!
He brought his cookie cakes to school to share for snack.
He had his little baggies of treats to hand out
to his friends.
He was greeted when he woke up with excited siblings...
and with kisses and birthday hugs from his Korbyn
when he arrived at school.
He was thrilled to answer the phone all evening
in case it was someone calling to tell him
"Happy birtday!"

He seemed older to me this morning..
may be just my imagination...
but I think my baby is growing up.
